Gilead Pharmaceutical Development Manufacturing goes live with Oracle On time, On Budget, No Problem
Gilead Sciences Pharmaceutical Development Manufacturing located in Foster City, CA is a market leader in developing treatments for some of the most severe chronic diseases. People with HIV/AIDs and Hepatitis-C are living fuller lives thanks to the chemistry happening right here in the Bay Area.
Gilead rolled out a single global instance of Oracle EBS for their commercial sites starting in 2011. The PDM organization, which produces R&D product and product used in clinical trials, has been using paper and spreadsheets to handle their material requirements. Additionally, the Gilead Foster City campus sprawls over dozens of buildings adding some challenge to the transportation of materials between buildings.
The solution was to commission a new centralized warehouse, add a buyer/planner role to the organization, and implement the Gilead Oracle EBS footprint for inventory management. Construction of the new warehouse along with configuration of Oracle all happened in parallel and on Friday, August 21st the validation for the warehouse and the final cut-over activities for Oracle were officially signed off. We held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate.
I worked with the incredibly lean business team, most of which had never used an ERP system before, to manage all of the business deliverables for the project:
I am grateful that my many years of enterprise software implementation experience helped keep this lean, mean fighting machine of a business team focused and effective during the project and that this outcome enables this extraordinary pharma company to continue the good work they do.
